Our PonyPals Program …

Want to learn more about horses, their care, and handling?  PonyPals is a year-round program held at our barn in Washington, NJ for young horse lovers. You don’t need to own a horse, or pony, to join!

PonyPals is not all about ponies as the name suggests … PonyPals is our “club” for horse lovers and young equestrians that develops leadership, confidence, and a sense of community through a program that teaches the care and handling of both horses and ponies. PonyPals is a fun group for young horse lovers, allowing them to make friends while learning and growing their equine knowledge alongside others through hands-on learning.  Consider joining us – meetings are monthly. New members meet at the barn on the second Thursday of each month.

Barn Time …

Once they pass our equine safety program, PonyPals members and riding lesson students are welcome to join us for weekly Barn Time. Just what the name implies, Barn Time is time in the barn (or arena) grooming, handling, and/or working with the horses and ponies.

Kids love Barn Time, especially in winter when the weather often prevents consistent riding lessons and other barn activities.

Winter and spring Barn Time is held on Saturday mornings. Summer and fall Barn Time is held on Thursday evenings.

Horseback Riding Lessons …

Beginner horseback riding lessons are available for kids age 6 and up, as well as adults of all ages. Haven’t ridden before? No problem … we specialize in individualized western beginner horseback riding lessons! Each lesson is customized to the riding level of each rider.

Although lessons can be scheduled weekly, spring through fall, winter lessons are subject to the weather and arena footing. Since our lesson schedule will vary from season to season, please contact us to schedule your first lesson.

Summer Camp …

Join us at the farm for Horse Camp and we’ll learn all about horses and explore the barn together … we offer three weeks of Horse Camp! Horse Camp kids will learn all about horse safety, care, handling, and how to ride. They’ll give horses a bath, learn how to shave and clip a horse, learn to saddle up on their own, and develop personal relationships with their favorite horses in the barn!

Our Horse Camp is very hands-on and is limited to 8 riders, so be sure to sign up early for your week of choice!

Although  our PonyPals Program does not formally include horseback riding or mounted lessons, riding lessons are available at the farm at an additional cost. Our program was designed this way to keep membership costs reasonable for all, while offering additional riding activities for those who desire them.

Reba McEntire Corn Maze

Von Thun’s Farms and 40+ Farms Nationwide Pay Tribute to Reba McEntire With Corn Mazes Honoring the Queen of Country Music

In celebration of the October release of Reba McEntire’s upcoming lifestyle book Not That Fancy: Simple Lessons on Living, Loving, Eating, and Dusting Off Your Boots and companion music album Not That Fancy, we have designed a country music corn maze honoring long-time, country music legend Reba McEntire. The 5+ acre mazes are scheduled to open Saturday, September 16th!

We are two of 40+ farms featuring Reba in their corn maze this year. Collectively, the farms—which are designed by The MAiZE Inc. in 24 states across the U.S.—will reach more than a million visitors during the fall season.

“While l admit being in a corn maze is one of the more unique things I’ve ever been invited to be a part of, I couldn’t be more excited to be involved with some of the things that matter most to me – farming, family, and friends,” said McEntire. “Growing up on a ranch in Oklahoma, I know how important agriculture is and I love being involved with something that brings more people out to farms across the country for good wholesome fun!”

Along with getting lost in the maze, guests will have the opportunity to enter to win a grand prize trip to Nashville for a one-night-only special event“Not That Fancy: An Evening with Reba & Friends” set for November 5th at Nashville’s iconic Ryman Auditorium. The prize will also include a two-night stay at a local Nashville hotel.

“This is an exciting time to be working with Reba and we’re thrilled to honor her in our maze design this year,” said Bob Von Thun. “Our now-grown kids grew up going to country concerts from a young age and it’s exciting to be able to share our love of country music with our guests this season.”

The first phase of the maze is short and perfect for young guests or those with limited walking ability. It tells the story of Spookley and how his friends helped him overcome being the only square pumpkin in a school of regular pumpkins. The second phase is nearly five acres with lots of twists and turns guaranteed to keep maze-goers on their toes. While navigating the maze, there are ten stops along the way where guests can answer a theme question and get a clue as to where to turn next. There’s also fun, interactive games like Farm Scene Investigator (FSI) or Maize-Opoly that guests can play, depending on which of our farm locations they’re visiting, as they go through the maze.

The corn mazes at Von Thun’s open for the season on Saturday, September 16th in conjunction with the farm’s Fall Festival Weekends and is open daily, including Columbus Day, through Halloween. The corn maze, along with hayrides, access to the apple orchard and pumpkin patch, and more than 20 games and attractions suitable for all ages is included with all general admission tickets. Tickets can be purchased online for both our South Brunswick and Washington locations to save guests time when they arrive at the farm.
